Property Tax Calculator

The Property Assessor does not determine how much you owe in taxes, only the value of your property. Taxes owed are calculated and collected by the Knox County Trustee, and any issues regarding your tax bill can be discussed with their team.

This calculator is a tool to estimate your commercial or residential property taxes. It does NOT display an official tax bill or serve as a replacement for your tax bill, it is only to help you prepare and understand how property taxes work. It also does not account for any exclusions, greenbelt, or tax relief exceptions. The formula to estimate your taxes is based on your property’s appraised value, class, and the city/county tax rate:

Est. Property Tax =.
( Appraised Value × Class rate ) xAssessed Value
( City + County Taxes )Tax Rate

If you do not know your appraisal value, use the county’s Property Search tool. Once you find your property, click on it to take you to the information page, then click the “Values” tab on the left. Your appraisal value is under the “Total Appraised” box.

Note: The calculator the reflects the 2025 tax rate. The 2026 tax rate(s) will be set by the City & County Commissions over the summer. The 2026 tax rate will be used to calculate property taxes based off of your 2026 reappraisal.
