Reappraisal is Here!
Apr 6, 2026
The Knox County Property Assessor’s Office has reappraised all real property in Knox County. Owners will receive a notification of reappraisal via mail with their updated property values in the month of May, along with additional information on the appeal process. If you would like to find out more about how we calculate property values, check out our pages Understanding Assessment and Reappraisal. If you have concerns about changing your value, the first step in this process is an Informal Appeal.
These Informal Appeals are for property owners to present evidence that supports an appeal for a lower/different value. Once informal appeals conclude at the end of May, new valuation notices will be sent out to affected properties in mid-to-late June; at which point the next level of appeal would be the County Board of Equalization.
We understand that the reappraisal process can raise questions, and we want property owners to know that there are opportunities to change the value through the appeals process. Our goal is to ensure every property is assessed as accurately and as fairly as possible based on fair market value. If you have market evidence to support your appeal, we want to change your value accordingly. Providing specific, well-organized information allows our staff to review your appeal carefully and find the most accurate value.
Tips for a Successful Appeal
Focus on market evidence. The strongest appeals rely on objective data. Relevant evidence may include:
- Recent comparable sales from last year
- A recent purchase of the property itself
- Independent appraisals less than a year old
